Focused Consultation for St Osyth Conservation Area Character Appraisal and Management Plan
St Osyth Conservation Area Appraisal 2025
The Council previously held six-week public consultations on the Conservation Area Appraisals for St Osyth (October 2021) and Manningtree & Mistley (May 2022). These consultations generated a strong response, with many insightful comments from residents and stakeholders. Much of the feedback reflected deep local knowledge and a close connection to the historic environment. In response to the comments received, Council Officers have proposed updates to both the text of the Appraisals and the boundaries of the two Conservation Areas. Additionally, a mapping error was identified in the St Osyth Appraisal. This error incorrectly excluded land west of St Osyth Priory — the site of the recent City & Country development at West Field — from the existing Conservation Area. This area is now correctly shown as a proposed reduction in the updated appraisal. Given the significance of these changes, we are launching a four-week focused public consultation to invite further feedback. The updated Appraisals and supporting documents are available online, and we are contacting individuals who previously submitted comments directly. A four-week public consultation on these specific matters, will commence on Monday 22nd September and close on 20th October 2025. If you have made comments in the previous consultation and don’t wish to add anything further, you do not need to write in as we will consider those comments already received in addition to any new comments.
